I Did It Again!

I read a good book last year called Born To Die: Murder in Montauk by L.A. Lewandowski and I thought it was pretty good. I got it in the Kindle version and while the story was good with some great characters, I noticed a lot of errors in punctuation, grammar, spelling. I left a review on Goodreads and mentioned the high number of errors. If I published a book, I'd want to know my proofreader didn't pick up on these.

Thankfully, the author was very grateful for my comment and she emailed me and asked me for some more information. Turns out the digital version that I got was a bad copy and that was good news for her. In the chain of emails that we exchanged, I asked if there was the possibility of a sequel and was told "yes" so I was happy.

Last month, Lois (L.A.) asked me if I would proofread her finished product of "A Gourmet Demise: Murder in Tampa" before it went into the printed version and I was tickled pink that she would consider me for that task. Of course I said yes! You didn't think I would pass up that offer did you?

I thoroughly enjoyed this book even more than the first. I'm an avid follower of mystery novels and since I live in Florida and have been to Tampa several times, it was fun to read about a place I know.  Even better was the fact that I wasn't able to figure who was the murderer!

As the book ended, I was even more surprised!! That was a first for me. I actually yelled out "Oh My" when I saw this:

That was a complete and total surprise and to Lois I say "thank YOU"!

I have also read another book that Lois wrote called "My Gentleman Vampire: The Undead Have Style". This one took me by complete surprise. I am NOT a follower of the latest vampire genre and really didn't think I'd like this one. I'll gladly admit when I'm wrong and I was WRONG! I really liked this story.  It was completely different and I'm glad I gave it a chance. If you don't try new things, life would be so boring wouldn't it? I

If you're in the mood for an easy and light read with a mystery, don't hesitate to read these books. They are available on Amazon.

Special Note for Al Penwasser: This author is from New Jersey!  My Jersey kin!

  1. How exciting for you…but how deserved. Proof reading is very necessary and overlooked! So glad you're home and enjoying the sunshine. I'm hopscotching blogs today for a quick bit. Time is not mine these days with new babies and weddings…
Much love~ amen for FB xoxox

  2. Well done you BB, and how exciting to be mentioned in the book like that. Also to be exchanging e mails with an author whose books you have enjoyed so much. Keep up the good work, and thank goodness your Kindle copy was just a 'bad' one.

  3. Seems you've got a thing for this stuff- good for you! This is both fun and productive and that is definitely a 'place' I like to be in.

  4. Hi There, After 3 trips this month, I feel as if I am SO far behind on my blogging. Glad you had a nice trip north---but I'm sure you are glad to be home. You really do enjoy reading, don't you? I have never been much of a reader (other than specific things I am interested in--such as health issues, genealogy, etc.)....

I was always good with grammar --and still go crazy when reading Facebook or blog posts when people make so many mistakes.

That is neat that you can help the authors with the proof reading.... Awesome!!!

  5. I have never heard of L.A. Lewandowsky but I am always on the look out for new authors

  6. I love mysteries and I love getting recommendations for new mystery writers! You've made me a happy lady Barb :)

  7. So you edit manuscripts for fun? I'll file this info away.

  8. That is sweet! Congrats on your newfound friend and your proofing!

  9. This is awesome. Congrats xx

  10. Wow that's awesome!!! Congratulations and hey, will you proof read my book -whenever I finish it, that is. ;)

  11. Looks like you may have a new career as a proofreader. One of my pet peeves is grammar and spelling mistakes in books.

I'll be sending you an email soon.

  12. I haven't read any of LA's work. Looks interesting.

  13. This is one of my pet peeves about ebooks. When I see error after error, I start to lose the gist of the story and my mind starts to wonder more about the errors than the plot.
